Bright 'Be' stars in M45 Star Cluster

December 23, 2024

M45 is one of the most beautiful objects in the night sky. I took the spectrum of eight bright stars in the cluster two days ago. Here is the ‘weird’ ones out of those eight stars. Notice the halpha line.. it is not an absorption line like we expect form stars.. it has an emission line there!

Notice the changing intensity of this line.. Pleione is coming up at the top here.
